Meet Hunter Altvater! The Newest Member of Stock Legal

Hello from Stock Legal!  I’m one of the firm’s two new attorneys, and am excited to join the team and work with such a progressive and friendly group of attorneys and staff.

Here at Stock Legal, I advise clients in all areas of business development including entity formation, contracting, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and all other general business matters.  My curiosity of business law originated during my first job out of college.  It was interesting to me how all the moving parts of the company worked together to provide customers with a valuable service while ultimately creating and growing a successful business.  I wanted to know more about what went on behind the scenes, like how the company is structured, how contracts are drafted and negotiated, and how strategic deals are made.

So, I attended law school at SLU where I focused on business associations, corporate finance, and intellectual property.  Afterwards I worked as an associate at a general practice firm downtown.  At this beginning stage of my legal career, I was exposed to all areas of law, including litigation, corporate and estate planning.  I even had the opportunity to first chair a jury trial, which rendered a verdict in favor of our client.

Through these experiences, I realized I wanted to explore another passion—building businesses and helping them grow.  I founded a digital education company that creates innovative study materials, and I worked for a technology start-up that operated an on-demand mobile application.  As an entrepreneur, it’s especially rewarding to create something from nothing, and I’m looking forward to working with like-minded clients and co-workers here at Stock Legal.

Personally, I am an avid piano player and enjoy playing blues, classical, jazz, rock, and children’s songs now that we have two little ones. I enjoy hiking and skiing in the great outdoors. And I love traveling with my wife and making PB&Js for our children and myself as well.
