Meet Richard Bailey! The Newest Member of Stock Legal

Greetings from Stock Legal!  I'm very excited to join the team of talented, forward-thinking, and caring attorneys and staff at Stock Legal.

My practice focuses on general corporate and real estate transactional matters.  I advise clients on corporate matters including entity formation, corporate governance, commercial contracting, debt and equity financing, mergers and acquisitions and other general business needs.  I also assist clients in financing, leasing, acquiring and selling real estate.

Growing up in a family of small business owners, I gained an appreciation for the value that competent, invested advisors contribute to their small and mid-sized business clients.  My desire to contribute to the success of small and family-owned businesses set me on the path to law school and has shaped my career.

I completed my undergraduate studies at McKendree University, where I double majored in finance and accounting. I played football for McKendree while in college and interned for 3 years in government contracting on Scott Air Force Base.  After college, I attended Saint Louis University, where I earned my joint Juris Doctorate and master’s in accounting degrees.  While in law school, I interned in the tax practice of a Big 4 accounting firm and at the Internal Revenue Service.

After graduating from law school, began practicing in real estate, finance, and corporate law as an associate at a large law firm in St. Louis.  My interest in business lead me to join my family's real estate company, where I served in both legal and business roles, including in-house counsel, asset management, and business transitions.  I assisted in transitioning the company's multifamily portfolio by divesting and replacing aging assets with newer properties in better performing markets.  Because each property transition amounted to the purchase or sale of a small business, I gained an in-depth understanding of the business challenges faced by clients engaging in mergers and acquisitions.  My transaction experience while serving in a business role has enabled me to provide comprehensive transaction and business transition advice to clients purchasing or selling businesses.  I eventually returned to practice with another large St. Louis firm, where I worked until joining Stock Legal.

However, my passion for real estate and family business drove me to partner with my brother in founding a real estate investment and management firm of our own.  As a business owner, I find it especially rewarding to provide other businesses with sound legal advice that is also practical given the client's business needs.
