Hannah Stark - A Day in the Life of a Stock Legal Intern 2024

My weekday mornings typically start around 6 am when the sun starts shining! I love to let the light in and wake up slowly. After that, I head downstairs for coffee. While I get ready, I sip coffee and listen to some music. Around 8:45 I head out the door and make my way to the office.

My weekday mornings typically start around 6 am when the sun starts shining! I love to let the light in and wake up slowly. After that, I head downstairs for coffee. While I get ready, I sip coffee and listen to some music. Around 8:45 I head out the door and make my way to the office.

Once I make it through the door, our office dog, Remi, comes to greet me. Her (un)official job is to ensure that every person who walks through the door feels welcomed in! After a few hellos, I sit at my desk and turn on my space heater. (I can’t live without it!) I spend some time reviewing emails and messages that have filtered in. I answer questions, work through different projects, and assign tasks as needed.

At Stock Legal, we have a variety of talented attorneys who work in numerous practice areas. When the office is busy with meetings, I spend most of the day helping out with everything from witnessing, to recording deeds, to listening in on client meetings - and the list goes on and on. This variability in the office allows me to experience what it would be like to practice in several legal specialties.

Lunch always comes quickly after a morning filled with work. Depending on the day I will go out to grab lunch or sit and chat with everyone else. The afternoon quickly passes too. I typically stay busy with meetings and research. Fortunately, all the interns work in the same room, making it easy for collaboration on a variety of topics. Like clockwork, when it gets to about 2:30, I have to get up and make tea for one final caffeine push.

As we near 4 pm and the day winds down, I finish up any projects I have been working on and write down everything I need to work on for the next day. I do one last email and message check before I close out of my tabs. Then I gather up my things, say bye to everyone, and head home for the day!

Once I get home, I often do house chores or run errands. I always water my plants at this time too! On the milder temperature days, I will go on a walk to the park before I come home to make dinner. Otherwise, I will start on dinner and catch up on shows. (Currently House of the Dragon!)

The rest of my night is filled with relaxation, any additional work I need to complete before the morning, and sometimes school work to prepare for the upcoming semester. Before I know it, it’s time to head to bed before the next day starts!
