Katie Schmidt - A Day in the Life of a Stock Legal Intern

Hi! My name is Katie Schmidt, and I am a Summer Associate here at Stock Legal. Welcome to a Day in my Life!

My day starts when my alarm goes off, and I am immediately greeted by my mini dachshund waiting outside my door. I get ready for the day and take my dogs on their morning walk. Once we’re back, I finish taking care of them and head into the office.  

When I arrive at Stock Legal, I grab a cup of coffee and settle into our shared intern workspace, which is filled with natural light and open collaborative areas. Before diving into work, l review my legal pad to see w what projects I have left from the day before and what’s on my schedule for the day. Then, I check my emails and messages and create a game plan for the day ahead.  

My work as a Summer Associate includes researching legal issues, drafting memos, and assisting attorneys with a variety of projects. Every day brings something different, which keeps the work engaging and rewarding. I often have the opportunity to sit in on corporate law and estate planning meetings, where I can observe how attorneys interact with clients and navigate legal matters. Throughout the week, I collaborate with team members across the firm and contribute to a wide range of legal projects.

After work, I enjoy spending time with my fiancé and our dogs. We’re always looking for a new adventure, whether that means taking a walk through Forest Park or checking out an event around St. Louis. Today, we are heading to Wine Down Wednesday at Oliva on the Hill. At the end of the day, I like to unwind by reading, journaling, or watching one of my favorite shows. Then it’s time to recharge and do it all again the next day!
