Hi! I am excited to be writing as a new addition to the Stock Legal team. I want to share my journey and how I ended up at Stock Legal.
I am originally from St. Louis. I attended Christian Brothers College High School. After high school, I ventured far and made it all the way to Columbia, MO where I decided to attend the University of Missouri. Growing up, I was one of those weird kids that enjoyed going to the dentist, so I went to Mizzou thinking I wanted to go to dental school. After studying on that path for about two years, I decided it was not for me and I changed gears. I enrolled in the business school. Finance always intrigued me as my dad made a career in the financial world. One of the last classes I took in business school was Business Law. That ended up being my favorite class and prompted me to take my love of business into law school.
Again, I adventured a long way and moved about 50 yards across the quad from the business school to the law school. Throughout my time at University of Missouri, School of Law, I took all the transactional, tax, and business-related law classes that were available. During law school I had internships at the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and a couple small law firms doing civil and criminal law.
After graduating, I got my first job at EY in St. Louis. There I assisted various Fortune 500 companies in diverse industries such as technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, financial services, energy, renewables, consumer goods, and manufacturing. We helped our clients through significant transactions such as bankruptcy, mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, corporate restructurings, and consolidations.
After EY, I decided to take a short break from the legal world. I decided I wanted to learn more about business and entrepreneurship for a little bit, so I decided to buy a brick-and-mortar, small business in St. Louis. I spent a couple years building the gym up to its potential and got the business to a place where it could run itself. In those couple years, I learned so much about business, which would ultimately help my future legal clients.
While I was building up the gym, a long-time family friend of mine left his job in the dental/oral surgery space (he helped build one of the biggest oral surgery practices in the country) and decided to start his own dental/oral surgery consulting firm. He quickly realized that a lot of the work involved legal matters. I joined him shortly thereafter and started working exclusively with dentists and oral surgeons helping them with any legal issues that arose, including employment, real estate, associate buy-ins, practice sales, practice purchases, etc. It’s funny how life comes full circle a lot of the time.
Most recently, I have been working as an outside, in-house counsel for a technology startup in Missouri and have thoroughly been enjoying that. I decided I wanted to keep working with dentists since I know the industry so well. I also wanted to work as in-house counsel for small-to-medium sized businesses. I found Stock Legal, met Sara, and it just seemed like the perfect fit for what each of us were looking for.
I have joined the corporate legal department at Stock Legal and I am thrilled to help Stock Legal continue to build its dental practice as well as build the firm’s General Counsel as a Service.
