My name is James Carr, and I am currently a second semester senior getting my bachelor’s in finance at East Carolina University. My first two years of college I attended Webster University here in St. Louis. Despite pursuing a degree in a field other than law, I am determined to become a real estate lawyer. My aspiration is to specialize in real estate law, showcasing my commitment to transitioning into the legal profession. I have a few schools that I am interested in attending for law school, but Saint Louis University is my number one choice for law school.

I come from a small town in North Carolina named New Bern. My childhood involved frequent moves because my father served as a Marine Corp helicopter pilot. Eventually, I found stability in North Carolina. While it holds a special place in my heart, my ultimate goal is to settle down in St. Louis. I have prior experience with the city since I attended Webster University for the first two years of college. This familiarity makes me eager to return there. My passion for sports runs deep, especially when it comes to St. Louis teams like the Blues, Cardinals, and St. Louis City FC - I follow their games religiously. This enthusiasm likely stems from my own history of playing soccer and baseball while growing up. During my time at Webster University, I even had the opportunity to be part of the university's soccer team which was an experience that brought me immense joy and fulfillment.

Initially, I had intended to leverage my finance degree towards a career as a financial advisor. However, due to a setback with an internship in that field last summer, I pivoted and secured an internship at a law firm through a family connection. While law was not my primary career choice initially, the experience proved to be serendipitous as I found it incredibly fulfilling. Throughout the summer, I shadowed a criminal defense attorney and discovered my passion for various aspects of legal work beyond criminal defense. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to intern at Stock Legal this summer and am eager to absorb knowledge and skills during my time here!
