Danielle Bryden- A Day in the life of a Stock Legal Intern

I begin my day usually around 7:30 am... or at whatever hour of the morning my one-year-old tuxedo cat decides to wake me up. I first must attend to her needs, including her breakfast and opening up the sunny window, as otherwise she will meow incessantly until I do. Once that is done, I take a quick shower, prepare myself for the day while listening to a true crime podcast, and have some breakfast—complete with chai tea and (typically) black cherry Greek yogurt. Then, after grabbing my favorite pair of heels and giving my cat a quick pet goodbye, I am out the door. On my drive to work, you can usually find me listening to either Hozier, Chappell Roan, the Lumineers, various Broadway musicals, or a continuation of my true crime podcast from earlier that morning.

At around 9 am, I arrive at the gorgeous historic building that Stock Legal calls home. As I walk in the door, I am always greeted by the office dog, Remi, who comes bounding up to me. After stopping to say hello, I set down my things, sign into my computer, check my messages, and put together a task list for the upcoming day. Next, I grab another cup of coffee or tea (with honey) from the Stock Legal kitchen, sit back down, and get started on my work for the day.

One of the amazing things about working at Stock is that no day is exactly the same, and I have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of legal tasks. I have helped in estate planning meetings, drafted warranty deeds and beneficiary assignments, worked on research projects for new privacy and cannabis laws, sat in on client meetings, built out corporate spreadsheets, created PowerPoints, scanned and organized documents, and so much more.

At lunch, I usually meet up with my fellow summer interns. Usually, we will have lunch on a shaded patio that Stock Legal has or occasionally we will head to downtown Central West End for some lunch.

After lunch, we continue on our morning projects until our day ends at 4pm.

After work, you can usually find me either coding my honors thesis, studying for the LSAT, arranging music for my a cappella group, taking a dance class at COCA, or singing Broadway karaoke with friends.

In the end, no two days are ever quite the same as a summer associate at Stock Legal. Because we get the opportunity to work with multiple different lawyers in different legal specialties, every day is an opportunity to get exposure to something new. I look forward to all of the many things I will learn over the rest of the summer and am grateful for all the experiences I have already had here!
