Lucky for me, my Stock Legal workday starts at 10 in the morning rather than 9 like the other interns. Still, my day begins at around 7:30 when I wake up, eat breakfast, and get ready for the day. By 8:30, I am ready to begin working on law school applications for about an hour before it is time to head to work. My long commute gives me plenty of time to catch up on my favorite podcasts and new music. I arrive at Stock Legal sometime between 9:45 and 9:55, depending on traffic that day. I go into the office and find my seat in the conference room where Olivia, Josh, and Hannah (the summer interns) have already been hard at work for about an hour. I crack open a Red Bull I brought from home and open my computer.
First, I check Slack, Stock Legal’s messaging platform, and look through the channels for any important updates or new tasks. This could mean sending Xzavier my lunch order for a meeting that week, confirming availability for a staff book club meeting, or updating client information in our database. Once I have responded to these messages and recorded the new tasks on my to-do list, I check my email for similar information. Once I am fully up to date on the day, I open my to-do list again to decide what I’m going to work on. There are a few ongoing projects I am consistently working on—for example, entering emails into clients’ records. Some projects are more short term, like putting all our schedules of services into an easily accessible spreadsheet for our attorneys. A schedule of services is an itemized list of all the tasks we are asked to do for a client and the rate for each service. By having them organized, it makes it easy for attorneys to look back on them or make new ones modeled after old ones. I often rotate between these projects depending on length and upcoming deadlines. Whenever needed, I will join Dan and Lindsey, our estate planning attorneys, in a meeting, both to observe and to witness signatures for them. I often help scan the important documents at the end of the meeting as well. I love being in meetings like this because I get to learn so much about law and estate planning, and I get a closer look into what my own career in law could be like someday.
Some days, the interns and I go on coffee runs or walk down to Whole Foods to get office essentials, birthday treats for staff, or whatever Xzavier tells us we need. As a future law student, I use this time to ask the interns questions about their experience in law school and gather any advice they might have for me.
I leave the office at 2 o’clock most days, unless my tasks or meetings require me to stay longer. When I get home, I usually go for an afternoon run in my neighborhood before eating a late lunch and getting ready for my shift as a server. I work most days until about 8 or 9 p.m. before I get home, eat a late dinner, pick out my outfit for the office the next day, and get ready to go to sleep. I look forward to another day at Stock Legal, where I have the privilege of working with intelligent, funny, and hardworking people who are all so willing to teach me and bring me one
day closer to my dreams of becoming a lawyer.

After losing that battle, I get out of bed and get ready for the day. I brush my teeth, throw on my clothes, and pack my lunch. I get into my car a little after 8 AM and drive to the office.
